HDSA’s Southeast Region held a Huntington’s disease (HD) fundraising event called Miles for Memories on Saturday, October 12th from 1PM-5PM at Noccalula Falls in Gadsden, Alabama. The event is held in honor of Adam Harris who passed away in a car accident and tested negative for HD before that. His sister Ashley organizes the event each year and is at risk for Huntington’s disease.

At the event, Jake Evans surprised event organizer Ashley Harris with a marriage proposal.

"Jake Evans, you could not have chosen a more special place to ask me to be your wife," said Ashley on her facebook post. "Miles for Memories is so personal to me because I have been given an opportunity from my God to spread his love and bring thanks to him, to honor my brother and my father, and to raise money to find a cure for HD just in case Nate or I have it along with the multitude of other wonderful at-risk people. As you learned rather quickly in our relationship, family is so incredibly important to me. Of course, Adam and Dad can't be here physically, but that event is where I feel closest to them. So, the fact that you chose to propose at this event is beyond perfect."
